Reason for Volunteering
I had always wanted to learn more about Aboriginal
culture and Aboriginal affairs. Volunteering for me was a great
learning opportunity. It left me with an insight into what life
in the Cape is like for many people and the problems that exist
in some communities.
What I got out of it personally/professionally: I only volunteered
for a short amount of time and I would urge others, if they are
interested in volunteering, to set aside more time as it is definitely
worth it in terms of professional and personal development. Volunteering
required me to develop my problem solving skills and make the
most of the resources at hand. From my work with Cape York Partnerships
I gained a wider perspective on many issues such as welfare and
work and I feel I have incorporated that broader view into my
work.
What I felt I contributed
I felt my contribution was fairly limited because
of that short amount of time, but I am proud of what I did achieve.
I prepared an edition of the Every Child Is Special newsletter and worked
on proofing and printing the annual report and other CYP policy
documents. |
