Anita
Creek is a Tutor on the Every Child Is Special project for the Southern
Kaanju clan group. Anita sometime goes by the name of Anna by
family members, friends and the Coen community.
Anita has accepted the tutor role as a representative for the
Southern Kaanju clan through her father’s side.
Anita is 22 years of age and has lived in Coen all of her life,
she has one beautiful daughter whose name is Alaina Walker.
Anita has a certificate III in Sports and Recreation that she
completed in block studies through the Tropical North Queensland,
Institute of TAFE in 2001. After completion of this certificate
Anita has been working as the Community Sports & Recreational
Officer in her community.
Through the Every Child Is Special Project, Anita will be receiving
another Certificate III in Indigenous Cultural Transmission. During
completion of this certificate, Anita hopes it will teach her
the capacity and skills to work in an environment with children;
monitoring a child’s behavior, planning educational lessons
and activities. Anita also hopes that through the training it
will help her gain further skills in business administration,
multimedia and Information Technology.
For Anita working on Every Child Is Special, she likes the idea of
collecting and preserving cultural and community information,
capturing and downloading photos, audio & video onto the Coen
Family Archive and Intranet site so that all of this information
provided by the elders will always be there for the future generations.
Anita believes that Every Child Is Special is a very important project
to her and her community. She loves learning more about her culture,
how to preserve it using digital technology and giving the children
of Coen a better learning opportunity.
Anita also chose to do this project, not only for her family
but also for herself. After the 18 months traineeship on the project,
Anita hopes that the skills she has learnt will help her look
after her family homeland and give her an identity as an educational
champion. |
