Marcy
Urken, Principal of Marketing Monitor, has 20 years experience in
customer-centred industries, including positions as a Store Opening
Supervisor for a major department store, Hospitality and Tourism
Manager for a North Queensland RTO and public relations. She has
been around long enough to implement Voc Ed and social reforms and
learn from them. Coming from a service industry background in for-profit
and not-for-profit enterprises partnered with a BBA(Marketing) and
augmented with substantial experience in youth development, VET
in schools, instructional design and adult education, she has the
ability to "connect" with people, pinpointing their motivation
to learn and to achieve success. Her consulting and training activities
are results driven, with over 550 clients now achieving their personal
and organizational goals and objectives.
Presently her home is in the Cairns’ Highland’s town
of Ravenshoe where she is an active community leader, holding executive
positions with the Chamber of Commerce, Business Women’s Network
and local visitor centre. To recognise her contribution to the Tablelands’
district, Marcy was selected as one of 20 Australians to participate
in a Building Community Leadership project in 2003.
Her philosophy centres on helping clients learn to do what they
need to do, rather than doing it for them (although there are times
when things need to be accomplished and Marcy can make things happen
with the best of them). Through her example and leadership, Ms Urken
identifies a vision, communicates that vision to the people on the
team, helps each person understand their place in that vision, and
then facilitates the process so that everyone can participate in
the success and earn a sense of accomplishment. What results is
a true team effort, with ownership of the actions and results.
The great diversity of projects, organisations and situations
she has dealt with have increased her ability to serve her clients
and help them get what they want from their investment, whether
in terms of business growth, community development, staff improvement,
strategic planning, project management, customer relationship marketing
management – or just turning around a business activity that’s
in deep trouble.
