It takes a village to raise a child: our community will be a healthy safe and happy village where self-respecting individuals have respect for others, where people care for their own families as well as their fellow members, and adults take responsibility for their own children as well as all the children of the village.

Green Box — Red Box Nutrition Project

Green Box — Red Box aims to improve the health of individuals and families through improved food security and by breaking the cycle of feast and famine.

The project engages families in practical activities in cooking, food preparation and storage so they are more confident and able to make informed choices about healthy food.

It also works with growers and suppliers to improve local access to fresh fruit and vegetables.

Objectives

  • Enable food security for all to make sure the feast and famine cycle is broken
  • All householders contribute their fair share towards food costs
  • Enable families to have access to quality and affordable healthy food items
  • Develop market solutions for fresh fruit and vegetables that stimulates local production
  • Improve household food storage, preparation and eating facilities and equipment
  • Increase knowledge of healthier food preparation and cooking
  • Establish dietary solutions for avoiding and managing chronic illness, particularly maternal and child nutrition, diabetes and heart disease

This project is designed, developed and delivered by Cape York Partnerships.
