Cape York Partnerships (CYP) is a not-for-profit social development organisation founded by Cape York Indigenous leaders who include Noel Pearson. We are currently implementing a range of innovative and successful programs aimed at rebuilding strong and vibrant Indigenous individuals, families and communities.

Pride of Place (PoP) is scheduled to commence a four site trial commencing in January 2008 as part of the welfare reform initiative. PoP is a decisive break from the “service-delivery” model that provides services that are passively received. It also breaks from a “needs-based” approach that requires an individual’s deficits, needs and problems to be addressed before they can take action themselves.
PoP has three significant project streams which are:
• Home Improvement – which focuses on families improving the interior of their homes;
• Backyard Blitz – which focuses on families improving their yards;
• Town Beautification – which focuses on local councils and community members improving their community spaces.
We are seeking a wide range of skilled people to assist with these streams and encourage anyone from landscape designers to carpenters to complete a volunteer application available on request from ATaylor@capeyorkpartnerships.com or www.capeyorkpartnerships.com
