The Every Child Is Special project adopts a family and community
development approach to reforming indigenous education by
building family and community demand for higher expectation
teaching and learning. This is achieved by engaging families
in cultural transmission and education activities that support
their children’s learning. The project aims to build
the capacity of parents and education leaders to take active
responsibility for education by providing training and employment
opportunities and facilitating local involvement in education
decision making.
The ultimate enduring value of this project will be its contribution
to improving the life expectancy of Indigenous peoples in
Cape York. Improving children’s education outcomes will
enable them to achieve their full potential, talent and creativity
and have the confidence and capacity for hard work and personal
responsibility so that they can orbit between two worlds and
enjoy the best of both. |
