Our younger generations will achieve their full potential, talent and creativity and have the confidence and capacity for hard work so that they can orbit between two worlds and enjoy the best of both.

ABSTUDY

ABSTUDY is an allowance that helps people stay at school or in further study.

Depending on the circumstances they may also be eligible for extra payments to help with the costs of studying.

ABSTUDY was amended by the Australian Government in January 2008 to enable eligible students in the four communities of Aurukun, Coen, Hope Vale and Mossman to receive the ABSTUDY away from home entitlements to attend a secondary school outside their community.

The level of assistance provided through Centrelink, which administers the program, will depend on the student's age, parental means-tests and where the student goes to school.

It is expected that around 60 additional students may benefit from this provision each year.
